The Wheaten Mill in Elmsett made this and they sell through the Co-Op (and probably other places too). It was nearly as good as our own home-made coffee cake and looks just the same. A bit less icing and more coffee flavour and it would have been perfect, but much much nicer than most shop bought cakes if you can't be bothered or run out of time to make one to have with your cup of tea.
Daydream Believer at The Framlingham Country Show today was Laura Cotton of Daydream in Cupcakes with some original and beautifully packaged home baked goodies. Laura started her business this year and is keeping up with the current trends in cakes. The cookiepop was delicious. I want to see whoopie pies and cakepops next time Laura!
Made these on Saturday morning to impress my suffolkfoodie colleagues and everything went wrong - had the wrong fliour, forgot to double up everything and realised half way through so had to guess, thought there was too much sugar so unravelled them all to take it out then got dough struck everywhere...but ...once they were cooked they were the nicest thing we had ever tasted and looked perfect. We drank it with several cups of Suffolk roasted coffee. So moral of the story is - never give up, cook it anyway.
My friend Rebekah kept her
wedding cake top layer in her
loft for four years and went to
look at it the other day for the first time.
She says 'Oh well, it went the same way as the marriage'...
Nice to meet a friend here in Bury on Saturday for a cup - well a good sized pot actually - of tea, with a fresh scones, the thickest cream and those little jars of strawberry jam. Their sofas are the most comfortable seats in the town, it was warm on a freezing cold day and there was free wi fi access for the laptop. And the staff are REALLY nice!
